Week 1: Days 1-5 (9/5-9/9)
Scripture verses:
Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Colossians 4:2: Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
I Thessalonians 5:11: Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for the Advisory Council and church staff, by name, as they handle new responsibilities. Ask God to give them rest, to multiply their time, help them to be successful in their jobs, and for discernment as they lead.
- Pray for us, the congregation as we are in prayer, to be expectantly watchful for what God wants to show us and where He wants to take us as a church.
- Pray for each other, specific prayer needs, within our small prayer groups.
Week 2: Days 6-10 (9/12-9/16)
Scripture Verses:
Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 2:2-4: Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
I Corinthians 1:10: I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for each other to truly connect with and experience God as we read His Word and pray scripture back to Him. Let it not be just checking a box or doing an exercise, but getting to know God more intimately.
- Let each of us: pray for (my) life, as (I am) living it out each day, revealing what (I) really believe, will speak loudly a message that will honor God. Without saying a word, let our imperfect lives be a God-honoring sermon.
Week 3: Days 11-15 (9/19-9/23)
Scripture Verses:
Isaiah 40:28-31: Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 41:10: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Prayer Points:
- Continue to pray for discernment for the Advisory Council as they make decisions for our church.
- Pray that we will be steadfast in waiting for the Lord; patience to not run ahead of Him; trust that He will answer, in His perfect time.
Week 4: Days 16-20 (9/26-9/30)
Scripture Verses:
Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
James 5:16: “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. “
Matt. 18:18-20: “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
Prayer Points:
- Continued discernment for each member of the Advisory Council and discernment for them as a group as they make decisions for RSBC.
- Pray as God is opening our spiritual eyes to see and ears to hear that He will show us what to do with those revelations.
- As we come to Him burdened and weary, pray for God to turn the burdens and weariness into calm expectation.
Week 5: Days 21-25 (10/3-10/7)
Mark 11:22: And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.” v. 24-25: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Ephesians 3:20: Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for discernment among our congregation as we begin to nominate individuals for the Pastor Search Committee.
- Pray for God to begin, even now, preparing willing hearts among those He is calling to be part of the Pastor Search Committee.
- Continue to pray for the staff and the Advisory Council as they make decisions following God’s direction focused on the best interests of our church.
Week 6: Days 26-30 (10/10-10/14)
Scripture verses:
Isaiah 43:18-19: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
John 13:34: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
Ephesians 4:1-6: “ I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
Prayer Points:
- Pray for willingness and openness for everyone to what God is planning as “a new thing” at RSBC, moving us into the future with a new Senior Pastor.
- Pray for a miraculous sense of love and unity among all members of the church. “Lord, help us surrender all bitterness, division, and anger within our church family and empower us to love one another with a patient, forbearing love.”
- Pray that we be prepared to make the necessary changes to embrace a new day of ministry.
- Pray for wisdom and discernment as the church body nominates members for the Pastor Search Committee.
Week 7: Days 31-35 (10/17-10/21)
Scripture Verses:
Romans 8:26-28: Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.
I John 5:14-15: And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.
Prayer Points:
- Thank God for the Holy Spirit interceding for us when we do not know what to pray; and when the Spirit intercedes for us, He does so according to the Will of God. Thank Him for also speaking to us about what to pray for.
- Thank Him that when we ask according to His will He hears us and answers.
- Pray wisdom and discernment for the Advisory Council as they work through the list of suggested members for the Pastor Search Committee, and pray for the members who will be approached to be willing if God is calling them.
- Pray for a like-mindedness and unity in the body of members at RSBC.
Week 8: Days 36-40 (10/24-28)
Scripture Verses:
Deuteronomy 28:9: “The Lord will establish you as a people holy to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.”
1 Samuel 16:7b: “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Psalm 127:1a: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
Prayer Points:
- Pray for us as a church to be willing to be obedient to God’s commandments and walk in His ways so that we will be a people holy and pleasing to Him.
- Pray for discernment for the Advisory Council as they work through the nominations for the Pastor Search Committee. Help them to see with spiritual eyes those with willing hearts to following God’s leading through the pastor search process.
