January Sermon Series

“Live Generously” Sermon Series

Overview: Join Pastor Michael in this 5-part sermon series highlighting the life that we all desire to live – a life of generosity. Generous speaks of liberal in giving, openhanded, characterized by a noble and kind spirit. From freely giving to the mission of the local church, to meeting the unmet needs in our community, to giving back to causes we care about, living generously is how we make a meaningful impact where we live, work and worship. One noticeable outcome of a Spirit-empowered disciple of Jesus is a lifestyle of generous giving. Jesus teaches His disciples to give first– “Freely have you received, Freely give.” “it is more blessed to give than to receive. ” Jesus highlighted giving to His disciples by pointing to the widow who “gave more than they all” by her few mites in the Temple offering. Jesus demonstrated generosity as He willingly gave His life for us on the cross. “We love Him because He first loved us.” “For God so loved the world that He gave His One-of-a-Kind Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Realizing the Lord’s amazing generosity towards us moves our hearts to live generously towards the Lord, His mission of the church, and the people He places in our lives. The most important mission in the world is the mission of Jesus Christ which He has chosen to fulfill through the missional community of believers which make up His local church. What would the world look like if Disciples of Jesus would live generously toward God and one another? What change might this bring to the world? Generosity involves giving the resources treasures(finances) – but also of meeting of relational needs. The command of Jesus to “Love one another, as I have loved you” is a calling to live generously in relationships – to freely give the loving attention, acceptance, appreciation, support, compassion, respect, and security that we have freely received from Jesus’ love.
